A new family moves onto Wisteria Lane when “Desperate Housewives” returns this season, and ET gets the inside scoop from Jeffrey Nordling, who plays Nick Vitale, husband to Angie Vitale (Drea de Matteo).

“He is not from these parts,” Nordling tells ET. “He doesn’t really belong [on Wisteria Lane]. There is a dark secret in their past, which you don’t quite figure out in the beginning. But something happened. It is not quite witness protection, but …”

Nordling says the hardest part of his role is getting the syntax right, because the characters don’t talk “as proper as the writers write.”

Not a new character, but returning after an absence is Andrea Bowen, who plays Susan’s (Teri Hatcher) daughter Julie.

“Technically, I have been at Princeton and then graduate school. I come back with secrets of my own,” Bowen tells ET. She also reveals that she may have romance in her future, saying, ” I think people will be surprised at who Julie ends up with.”

It might be Angie and Nick’s son, because Bowen admits that she gets to interact a lot with the new family.

Bowen also says that exec producer/creator Marc Cherry had always told her that she would return. “He told me, ‘We have to make people miss you. You have to go away to come back in a big way,’” she shares.

And speaking of Susan, Dana Delany, who plays Katherine, admits that some things never change and that this season, as in the one previous, Katherine and Susan still will be fighting over Mike (James Denton). “That will be endless,” she says.

The new season of “Desperate Housewives” returns Sunday, Sept. 27 at 9 p.m. on ABC.

Jeffrey Nordling is new to Desperate Housewives.

The actor, coming off a key role on season seven of 24, joins the cast of ABC hit this fall as the husband of Drea de Matteo’s character. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the actor said his character - shocker! - has a secret that won’t be revealed right away.

“He is not from these parts,” Nordling said. “He doesn’t really belong [on Wisteria Lane]. There is a dark secret in their past, which you don’t quite figure out in the beginning. But something happened.”

Meanwhile, Andrea Bowen will return in September as Susan’s daughter Julie. Where has she been for the last couple years?

“Technically, I have been at Princeton and then graduate school. I come back with secrets of my own,” the actress said, teasing that Julie has romance in her future: “I think people will be surprised at who Julie ends up with.”

Let’s hope John Barrowman didn’t just jinx himself.

The Torchwood star says he’s in negotiations to play a role on the upcoming season of Desperate Housewives. He sounds quite confident about his prospects to appear on the ABC hit.

During a radio interview last week, Barrowman said he was about to meet up with series writers/producers in Los Angeles to discuss the role. He later posted on his Twitter account:

“Can you believe it, I’m going to be a Desperate Housewife!”

The Scottish actor didn’t say what character he’d play. But we’re guessing it won’t actually be a housewife.

Drea de Matteo might be bringing some attitude to season six of Desperate Housewives, but Jesse Metcalfe is bringing the hotness. The actor will reprise his role of John Rowland, Gabrielle’s boy toy from season one, on this fall’s third and fourth episodes. The character was last seen in 2007, when John married the daughter of a wealthy businessman.

“Now he’s divorced and doing well in a different industry,” creator Marc Cherry told TV Guide Magazine, adding that Gaby’s husband, Carlos, won’t be very pleased to learn that John is single again.

However, this time it’s not necessarily Gaby about whom Carlos has to worry; it’s his niece, Ana (Maiara Walsh).

“When Ana finds out that Gabrielle had an affair with John, she sets her sights on him, which upsets Gabrielle,” said Cherry.

Considering Lynette’s pregnancy, what will happen next season on Desperate Housewives? This is one of the main questions on the minds of viewers everywhere. Will there be a miscarriage, as some have theorized? And how will an impending baby affect husband Tom’s plans to go to college?

We’ll have to tune in if we wanna find out the answers to these questions, but TV Guide Senior Editor Mickey O’Connor can at least confirm that Lynette’s pregnancy will be a critical issue on season six. He also says Tom will not head off to college as a result of this development. Instead, the pregnancy will help position the Scavos to be among the first of the show’s cast to interact with Drea de Matteo’s character and her Italian family. We can’t wait to see that!

Afraid Desperate Housewives would lose its edge without Nicolette Sheridan’s Edie around? You can fuhgettaboutit.

Emmy-winning Sopranos heroine Drea de Matteo is joining the cast as Wisteria Lane’s newest vixenish housewife, sources confirm to me exclusively.

De Matteo, who will be a series regular, will play the matriarch of a new Italian family. Casting is underway for her landscape designer husband and their tightly wound son.

Thoughts? IMHO, this is the second coolest piece of casting of the 2009-10 season (behind Katee Sackhoff joining 24, natch). Agree?

The Desperate Housewives finale definitely had a few shockers, on top of a major cliffhanger (a wedding with a faceless bride), and it was so good that some critics predict that the ABC dramedy may just be back to the Emmy’s race this season.

To refresh your memory, the season 5 finale saw the unfolding of Dave’s long-winded revenge plot that could’ve taken the lives of Susan and cute MJ. Elsewhere, Lynette found out that she was pregnant (again) with twins (again), just as Tom found out he was on his way back to school. And Gaby welcomed what she thought was a harmless little thing to their home (Carlos’ niece) but turned out to be a feisty little thing instead.

ABC reports, meanwhile, that the upcoming season of Desperate Housewives will feature the return of Susan’s daughter Julie (played by Andrea Bowen) as well as her daddy Karl (played by Richard Burgi) for several episodes. Susan made a brief return on season 5 when she came home with her boyfriend from college, who turned out to be her thrice-married 40-year-old college professor. Karl, meanwhile, was hired by Bree to represent her during her divorce from Orson on season 5.

We also received word that Gaby’s feisty nice Ana (played by Maiara Walsh) will start to be a regular on the show come next season and will reportedly start to complicate her life. Elsewhere, the love triangle involving Susan, Mike, and Katherine will persist despite the marriage, while Lynette’s unexpected pregnancy will test her family’s resolve.

On the spin-off idea, there is still no word if ABC is considering picking up a Desperate Housewives spin-off starring Lily Tomlin and Kathryn Joosten, who play scheming sisters Roberta and Karen McCluskey on the series.

Eva Longoria Parker told the New York Daily News that she’d love to play famous Mexican actress Maria Felix in a biopic about her life. Felix died in 2002.

What do you guys think? Could she pull it off?

Last week, words were spreading that “Desperate Housewives” could get a spin-off with Lily Tomlin and Kathryn Joonsten as the lead cast. In the development of the story, NY Post reported that the news gathered so many great response from the public that the execs are expected to consider making it true.

It is said in the report that Lily and Kathryn will reprise their “Desperate” roles as sisters Roberta and Karen McCluskey respectively. The idea is to have them snooping and solving light crime mysteries in another neighborhood outside Wisteria Lane. “(Creator Marc) Cherry loves the idea of a mystery series,” said a source close to the project.

Cherry is expected to discuss the matter when he has a meeting with the staff writers later this June for the show’s 6th season.

Just before the season 5 finale on Sunday, May 17, recurring cast Neal McDonough threw the idea of a spin-off by asking the audience of “The View” on who would like to see the show getting a spin-off. Many raised their hands and since then, Kathryn’s e-mail reportedly was so flooded that it was shut down.
